The still centre.
In the Vedic tradition, the centre of a sacred space is left open: Brahmasthan, the seat of Akasha, space itself. At La Aranya, everything is arranged around it.
A wide, symmetrical lawn framed by stone pathways and shallow lotus water troughs. Nothing is built above it, and only low lamps line the paths, so the night sky is yours.
Walk here after a day among the ghats. Sit. Look up. Let the day settle.
An evening with the sky.
Away from the glow of the city, the courtyard becomes an open-air observatory. Lie back on the lawn and let your eyes adjust, or join a guided session that turns the scattered lights above into a map of stories.

Stars the sages named.
Long before telescopes, India read the heavens closely. Jyotisha, the study of the sky, is one of the six Vedangas, and its names still live in everyday life.
The Moon travels through 27 nakshatras, the lunar mansions that mark festivals, seasons and birthdays. The seven bright stars of the Great Bear are the Saptarishi, the seven sages, circling Dhruva, the steadfast Pole Star, named for the child whose devotion never wavered. Krittika (the Pleiades) and Rohini (Aldebaran) shine together on winter evenings.
